When working on a computer, wallpaper plays an important role in its appearance. If you have a regular home computer, you may want to change the wallpaper from time to time. But not so on office computers. You have seen that office computers have the same wallpaper as that company applied to all the computers there. Even if you feel that users are not going to change it, maybe the settings have been set by the company administrators itself so that it cannot be changed. This can be done on your office computers as well as on your personal computers. In this guide, we are talking about how to prevent users from changing the wallpaper in Windows 10 operating system.

How to prevent users from changing the wallpaper in Windows 10

There are two main ways to do this, and you do not need any other third-party software to do all three. Read both methods and follow an easy method for you.

Create a restore point first to avoid errors that may occur from incorrect steps.

Method 1: Using Registry Editor

First, select the photo you want and set it as the wallpaper. Then follow these steps.

  • Press the Windows key + R to open Run windows and type “Regedit” and press the enter key.

  • Navigate to the following path.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

  • Right-click on the “Policies” folder (As in the photo below) and choose New > Key option.

  • Set the new key name to ActiveDesktop.
  • Right-click on the created “ActiveDesktop” folder and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) value option.

  • Set the new DWORD value name as NoChangingWallPaper.
  • Double click on the created “NoChangingWallPaper” value and change the value to 1.

  • Click the OK button and restart your computer to apply the changes.

You can change the wallpaper again by deleting the created ActiveDesktop folder.

Method 2: Using Group Policy Editor

This method can only be used by users of Windows 10 Pro, Education and Enterprise Editions.

  • Press the Windows key + R and type “gpedit.msc” and press the enter key.
  • Navigate to the following path.

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization

  • Double-click on the “Prevent changing desktop background” option in the right pane.

  • Select the Enabled option and click the OK button.

  • Restart your computer to apply the changes.

You can change the wallpaper again by changing that option to the “Not configured” option.
